Notes: A veteran of the Danish pipe boom, Viggo Nielsen made his first pipe in 1946 and founded the brand Bari (since sold) two years later. In the 1960s, he turned to 'fancy' style pipes for a while. Both his sons (Kai and Jorgen) have become carvers. However, note that Bjarne Nielsen is not a relative.

Though a respected artisan, Viggo never achieved the prestige of other Danish pioneers such as Rasmussen and Ivarsson.

His trade mark is a silver spot on the stem. His best pipes are stamped as 'Jewels of Denmark'.

Comments: Unlike Emil Chonowitsch, Viggo Nielsen has not been eclipsed by a son. His pipes are more elegant than Kai's or Jorgen's and usually boast a better finish.
