Notes: A new German carver, who started selling pipes in 2003. Tom Richard Mehret earns his living as an architect and lives near the Danish border. His brand name is 'Tom Richard'.

Comments: It's too early to say where Tom Mehret is going, but people who follow his work recommend giving him a try. His pipes are already rather decently made - and improving swiftly. But perhaps more importantly, Tom has a 'learner's personality' - a high degree of personal modesty along with a perfectionist streak. This could take him quite far, though he admits that he has yet to find his own style.

If premature hype doesn't spoil his career, my own guess is that Tom will find his niche making pipes in the 'Elevated' class.
