Notes: Giancarlo Guidi left Mastro de Paja to found Ser Jacopo in the 1980s. Some collectors describe both brands as representatives of a 'Pesaro style', involving slightly nostalgic design elements and excellent grain (but sometimes ignoring minor flaws in the wood).

Ser Jacopo's reputation is almost as fine as Castello's.

Grades: Cheaper models sport a red dot on the stem, more elevated ones a silver or golden letter 'J'. Top Ser Jacs have a gem set in the stem.

Comments: I much prefer Ser Jacopos to Mastros, because the element of fussiness is usually more subdued. The low and medium grades are especially good value for money. However, I find Mastro de Paja's bits more comfortable.
