Notes: Bertram Safferling has some very loyal fans, who appreciate his artistic and free-spirited attitude to pipe design. He has been described as Mediterranean, rather than Germanic - whatever that means. Certainly, he is the least 'Danish' of the German high-graders.

Grading is by numbers and in ascending order (1 - 5).

Comments: Though Safferling is one of the established German masters, it must be noted that he has occasionally allowed a clear mistake or unsuccessful experiment to reach the market. It would truly be a pity if this were to harm his reputation, since his style is unique. Reportedly, he has now tightened his quality control regime.
