Notes: Despite his low entry-level prices, Marco Biagini must be classed higher than the majority of mid-graders. Not only do most smokers agree that his work is the equal of many carvers with much higher tags. Additionally, Marco's top pieces boast most of the qualities of genuine high grades, including hand-cut ebonite or cumberland stems. According to reports and his own words, Biagini has a huge stock of old briar, from which he styles about 1000 pipes a year. Refer to Marco's website for information on grading. Note that his more affordable pipes may contain small flaws, but no fills. Comments: Superlative smokers, even at entry level. The acrylic bits used on the cheaper Morettis prove that good stem work can compensate for the harshness of the material to a large degree. People who cannot afford an exclusive pipe should try a Moretti for a notion of what the fuss is all about. |
