Notes: Born in 1961, Kent Rasmussen turned from art to carving at the age of 37, initially receiving some advice from Teddy Knudsen. Along with Cornelius Mänz, he is often named as Europe's main promise in a new generation of carvers. His skills as a somewhat sculptural maker have been praised widely, along with his talent for tasteful and independent interpretation of other artisan's shapes.

Comments: Some collectors say that Kent has yet to fully liberate himself from Teddy's influence. Personally, I see no reason for an artisan to hide his heritage, as long as he is building on it, rather than perpetuating another's style. I think Kent Rasmussen reached this stage of emancipation some time ago and now displays a degree of eclecticism rarely paralleled in Denmark. He is able to create and to interpret with equal intensity and grace.
