Notes: Often portrayed as a straight-grain wizard, Joura is widely acknowledged as one of the most wood-sensitive carvers in the world. He has sometimes been criticized for an overly casual attitude to detail, but is generally regarded as one of the top five Germans.

Comments: His shape repertoire is not huge, though very coherent. Many of his designs would not work well with lesser grain.

Joura's prices seem to have shot up recently, via the US market. Personally, I find it hard to believe that the average Joura should cost more than the average Barbi. Beautiful as his pipes are, they are not as consistently well crafted as those of some competitors. One suspects that a considerable share of the price may be for the grain.
