Notes: Peter Hedegaard worked for W.O. Larsen from 1976 to 1979. Now independent, he produces about 100 pipes a year. At one stage, he made many Calabash variants, but his style has changed several times during his career as one of Denmark's top carvers. An extremely grain-conscious maker, he also has a reputation for thin, comfortable bits.

Grades (in ascending order): FP, FP1, FP2, FP3, OP1, OP2, OP3, B, A, (AA ?)

Comments: Always a superb choice for those prepared to pay the price. I see Hedegaard close to the very top tier of Danish carvers. For better or worse, however, he has always lacked 'trendsetting' qualities. Much as his designs have evolved, an element of discretion is always present.
