Notes: Erik Nielsen has been making pipes for some time, but has only recently set up his own brand (having formerly worked with Kurt Balleby, whose influence is discernible). His pipes are currently only available from a few vendors, but he is aiming for international recognition in the high-grade niche.

Comments: I have only seen a dozen photos of Erik Nielsen's pipes and handled three, including my own (shown on this page). From what I can tell, there is no reason why this carver should not achieve his ambition. His shapes are not very spectacular, but well executed, suiting the grain harmoniously. His bit work is fair - personally, I like them slightly thinner.

If you can handle the notion of an 'average high-grader', this seems likely to be his tier. He may not become special enough to compete with Eltang or Kent, but he is liable to remain more affordable.
