Notes: Father of the legendary Jess, not quite as highly rated, but eagerly sought after and fairly pricey on the estate market. Unsmoked pieces are exceedingly rare.

Emil's concern were standard shapes and hand-turned pipes, rather than freehands. Both he and Jess embraced pipe making at around the same time (1965), and both started as apprentices with Poul Rasmussen.

Comments: Much as I admire the craftsmanship of Emil Chonowitsch, I cannot agree with the (seemingly growing) number of collectors whose 'Chono of preference' he has become. A carver on the extremely skilled level of Former - and not entirely unsimilar. But not a match for Jess.
