Notes: Little is known about Mauro Cateni, though he is rumoured to have existed as a person (rather than a mere brand name). His pipes were apparently chiefly available in German in the late 1980s. Old, unsmoked stock can still be found in German shops, albeit rarely, usually at fairly attractive prices.

Comments: The piece shown is a very well-made pipe with a beautiful blast and a hand-cut stem. However, I have seen Catenis that were rather less convincing, notably smooth ones.
